Many people presume hemp is synonymous with Cannabis (marijuana), but the former more properly refers to “non-THC” varieties of Cannabis sativa grown for nutritional purposes. Thus, hemp extract contains trace amounts of THC, typically less than 0.3% by weight.
But hemp extract is much more than just Cannabis sans THC. In fact, whole-plant hemp extract is a rich source of an estimated 400+ beneficial plant compounds, notably cannabidiol (CBD) – a cannabinoid which is known for supporting the body and mind in several ways.*
Many people incorporate CBD oil and hemp-based supplements into their health routine to support their overall wellness on a cellular level. Full-spectrum hemp extract is becoming a popular holistic health supplement due to its abundant profile of cannabinoids not known as THC. In other words, full-spectrum hemp extract doesn’t get you “high” like traditional marijuana might.
The beauty of CBD oil is that it gives you the many versatile and health-promoting plant compounds found in Cannabis without inducing unwanted psychoactive effects.
However, it’s important to look for full-spectrum CBD oil since research has shown us that the 100+ cannabinoids in hemp work synergistically to support the body. When you remove one (or several) of them from the equation, the potential benefits diminish.
In terms of specific benefits that hemp extract offers, many users notice an improvement in mood, a greater sense of calmness and mental clarity, relief from daily stresses, better sleep quality, and help with recovering from exercise/physical activity. Hemp extract may have extensive health benefits beyond these, many of which show promise in clinical trials.
Spry™ CBD oil is a full-spectrum hemp extract with a comprehensive range of cannabinoids and other beneficial plant compounds, notably terpenes and flavonoids. Since recent studies show that whole-plant hemp extract maximizes the benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids, we diligently crafted SpryMD™ hemp oil with full-spectrum hemp extract so you can experience CBD as Mother Nature intended.
“CBD oil” and “hemp oil” are often used interchangeably, though they are not always the same thing. In most cases, hemp oil refers to the oil extract of hemp seeds, which is predominantly a source of essential fatty acids and trace amounts of cannabinoids. On the contrary, quality CBD oil is generally made through a process known as supercritical CO2 extraction, specifically using hemp flowers, leaves, and stalks, which yields a much higher concentration of non-THC cannabinoids.
The resulting hemp extract may then be diluted in an oil-based tincture or used to make other CBD supplements. In this sense, SpryMD™ CBD oil is the same as hemp extract, but SpryMD™ also incorporates full-spectrum hemp extract into topical creams and gummies.
Since SpryMD™ contains full-spectrum hemp extract, it may contain trace amounts of the cannabinoid THC, but always less than 0.3%. Just as consuming poppy seeds may lead to a positive drug test for opiates, ingesting hemp products may lead to a positive drug test for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), particularly if you have consumed hemp products within a week of a drug test.
It’s important to remember that THC is an intrinsic component of hemp plants, albeit a very minor one since the legal limit of THC in hemp is 0.3% or less. In this regard, THC is, in fact, a small piece of the cannabinoid ensemble that supports our health and wellness.
However, if you are regularly drug tested for work, sports, school, or any other reason, we strongly encourage you to consult with your primary healthcare provider prior to using any hemp products that may contain trace amounts of THC. We all have our own distinct genetic makeup that influences nutrient metabolism and how the body processes cannabinoids. Some people metabolize cannabinoids rapidly; others metabolize them slowly, meaning they remain detectable in urine for longer.
Just as we all have a nervous system that allows us to perceive and interpret sensory information, we also have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that is constantly working to help achieve proper balance (i.e. homeostasis). The ECS is comprised of a vast network of receptors and associated signaling molecules known as cannabinoids that make this possible.
What makes hemp unique compared to other plants and nutrients is that it contains 100s of cannabinoids that either fit into (and activate) the receptors of the ECS directly or influences their actions indirectly by helping the body synthesize more of its own cannabinoids. Therefore, the cannabinoids in hemp work by supporting the endocannabinoid system, which may, in turn, confer a multitude of benefits.
The body is in a constant state of flux and trying to maintain a healthy balance (i.e. homeostasis). As such, there is no single one-size-fits-all experience that describes how CBD feels. Rather, taking CBD is a dynamic endeavor that influences the body to realign with homeostasis. For example, when we are anxious, jittery, or “on edge,” the endocannabinoid system will work to calm and ease the mind. Hence, some people find that CBD supports feelings of relaxation.
Similarly, when we are distracted or unable to think clearly, the ECS does what it can to help us focus and concentrate. Thus, some users find that CBD allows them to work through episodes of brain fog and maintain proper mental clarity.* Ultimately, we are all unique and the best way to find out how CBD works for you is to give it a shot for yourself!

In the coming years, clinical trials will give us deeper insights into the role(s) the minor phytocannabinoids and terpenes found in hemp, and how they can help support our well-being.
